Mission Statement
CRi envisions a world where all people have Choice, Respect, Independence, and the support needed to live a fulfilling life. We deliver personalized resources to youth and adults with mental health support needs and developmental disabilities, and for 50 years have promoted equity by aiding people with these diagnoses to live in diverse communities. Started in Arlington as part of the de-institutionalization movement, CRi provides services via a person-centered approach that emphasizes individual needs and preferences. Program Summary
CRi Programs serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health support needs, and youth as they age out of foster care:
- Developmental Disabilities programs include neighborhood-based shared living community homes, Supported Living services that promote skills building for community integration as well as daily care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD) diagnoses, and intermediate care facilities (I/DD/ICF) that provide 24-hour clinical support to prevent hospitalization or admission to a nursing facility. As part of these programs CRi provides Behavioral Therapeutic Consultation, to aid caregivers to implement each client’s Individual Support Plan, which is developed with families and clinical staff to help reach individual goals.
- In Virginia, CRi’s Mental Health programs focus on evidence-based skills building services for recovery, delivered through supervised community living in residential apartment settings.
- Tenant Support Services reach individuals with either disabilities or a mental health diagnosis, or a dual diagnosis. Case managers aid clients to set goals for independent living, develop measurable plans, and strengthen the skills needed to be a responsible tenant.
- The Living Independently for Tomorrow (LIFT) program serves youth age 17-21 as they transition out of foster care, via provision of apartment-based case management and support services for housing, employment, and therapeutic needs.
Impact Statement
CRi measures its impact beyond the number of people served each year – which in FY24 was 700 people in Virginia and Maryland. Clinical staff work with clients and families to develop an Individual Support Plan or Individual Recovery Plan for every person in each program, which helps measure progress toward goals such as community integration and outcomes including improved communication, pro-social behaviors, money management skills, and use of community resources. We assess the quality of CRi’s services by tracking individual advancement, and by gathering feedback via an annual client satisfaction survey. Over 460 individuals responded to the 2024 survey, with results reflecting the strong relationships developed in CRi’s programs. Over 90% of individuals agreed that they feel heard, understood, and respected. This impact can be seen in the success stories of people we serve, in an increased ability to participate in community events and connect with others, in the improvement in symptoms of a mental illness, the capacity to maintain one’s own clean apartment, and the capability to sustain employment or education.

People who are interested in collaborating with CRi can volunteer and/or advocate with us, can donate in-kind items, and can help support our programs with a financial contribution. Our Volunteer Program Manager organizes activities with local businesses and civic groups to help us maintain and beautify one of our community houses, as well as events with Volunteer Arlington and Volunteer Fairfax, such as the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in January. This includes working with teachers and schools to help students fulfill service hours. Civic groups can also visit a program in their community and bring arts and craft supplies or board games, and can assemble kits to support our individual residents, e.g., with hygiene kits or “busy boxes.” CRi also has an Advocates Group to aid our leadership in publicly supporting our work with individuals with disabilities and mental health diagnoses. Financial donations of any size are always welcome, and a small monetary amount can help our individuals participate in community events and activities such as bowling and movies, or offset transportation costs.

CRi’s most recent campaigns have involved seeking donations to provide lifts (transportation) for youth age 17-21 who are part of the LIFT (Living Independently For Tomorrow) program. CRi’s LIFT program aids youth who are transitioning out of foster care, helping them to gain autonomy, e.g. by building their employment skills. A donation as small as $25 will help a youth get transport to a workforce development program, or to a job. In our 2025 end-of-year campaign we are seeking donations of $50, to commemorate CRi’s 50 years as a nonprofit. $50 will enable our staff to transport and accompany an individual on an outing such as viewing holiday lights. $100 would help us to provide new holiday decorations for our community homes.

For over 50 years, Ayuda’s expert team has helped over 150,000 immigrants navigate complex legal systems and access vital services. With offices in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, we offer both in-person and virtual services to reduce barriers. We also provide emergency financial, food, and material assistance to those in crisis, ensuring immigrants have the support they need to build safe, stable lives.
In 2024, Ayuda provided 3,109 low-income immigrants from 84 countries with immigration legal services, domestic violence, and family law services, comprehensive case management, and/or therapy. 165 language experts contributed to our interpreter bank, accessible to 118 nonprofits, allowing them to break down language barriers as they support clients. Over $228,000 in financial assistance, 21,400 pounds of diapers, and 2,800 pounds of food were distributed to help new immigrant families thrive.

LAJC partners with communities and clients to dismantle systems that create and perpetuate poverty. We achieve this by integrating individual legal representation, impact litigation, policy advocacy, know your rights education, and organizing strategies. We work in and with communities to identify and address root causes of poverty while taking individual cases to mitigate acute impacts. We believe that the individual legal problems of our clients are inextricably linked to overarching systems of injustice and oppression, and that legal and organizing strategies can effectively dismantle the social, racial and economic systems that marginalize communities and keep people in poverty.
Program Summary
The changes to long-standing immigration policies and the mass deportations promised by the Trump administration are an existential threat to low-income immigrants; they threaten their family unity, their safety, and their ability to remain in the country. Additionally, low-income immigrants in Arlington County routinely contend with low-paying jobs and workplace abuses, substandard housing conditions, and threat of eviction. LAJC’s attorneys, community organizers, and service navigators provide outreach, Know Your Rights education, appropriate referrals, linkages to safety-net services, and legal assistance to low-income immigrants who are facing immigration, housing, health, consumer and education related legal problems.
Our services help low-income immigrants overcome legal problems that threaten:
- 1) their right to remain in the U.S., family safety and unity (defense against immigration detention, affirmative immigration status adjustments, family emergency preparedness, Know Your Rights education on immigration policies and enforcement);
- 2) their housing stability (e.g., evictions and substandard housing conditions);
- 3) financial stability (e.g., wage theft, predatory lending, debt collection, and access to public benefits and safety-net services).
- 4) their access to education (e.g. enrollment, IEPs, special education and mental health services), and
- 5) their access to affordable medical care (e.g., Charity Care applications, insurance enrollment and appeals, ACA subsidies).
Impact Statement
LAJC’s Know Your Rights presentations in Arlington are tailored to address expressed community needs, topics include: changes in immigration policy, safety in the face of aggressive immigration enforcement, emergency family preparedness, housing conditions and eviction, and how to access safety-net services. These KYRs have made the difference between families remaining safe during an ICE raid and family members being detained.
Our Community Clinics provide an opportunity for community members to receive one-on-one advice and services around immigration issues, including assistance creating family emergency plans and preparing power of attorney documents. We also have service navigators, housing and consumer attorneys present at these events to help address the many challenges low-oncome households face. These clinics provide a one-stop shop for legal services and education that is specific to low-income immigrants in Arlington.
Brief through extended legal services to low-income immigrants facing an immigration, housing, employment, consumer, health or education related legal problem. These services are crucial to household stability and financial security. Additionally, LAJC’s Immigrant Justice Program is committed to providing immigration consultations to any Arlington resident who is detained in an ICE raid.

We are currently looking for people (particularly attorneys) who can help with the preparation of power of attorney documents and guiding families with the collection of information that may be needed if a family member is detained by ICE or other emergencies.

Homeownership: Habitat provides unique opportunities for families with low to moderate incomes to buy their first home. We build quality homes and partner with DC & NOVA families to sell them below market value with affordable financing, reduced down payments, and mortgage payments proportional to income. We serve families earning 30-80% of the Area Medium Income (AMI) and who live in Arlington County, Fairfax County, The Cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, and the District of Columbia.
Home Repair: We partner with seniors with lower incomes and adults with disabilities to help them make critical repairs and accessibility modifications to their homes. By helping families who cannot afford these repairs, we’re helping to make their homes safe, healthy, and supportive of aging in place. With modifications and support, they can continue to live—and thrive- in their own homes and communities.
Impact Statement
For the last 34 years, Habitat DC-NOVA has partnered with families to help them build stronger foundations for their future. Currently, more than 50% of renters in our region live in unaffordable housing and pay more than 30% of their monthly income towards housing. With many spending more than 50% on their housing, they have to make difficult decisions between spending on housing, healthcare, food, and transportation.
We have built over 300 homes, completed over 235 home repairs, and served almost 2,000 individuals. In 2018, we found that 52% of homeowners pursued higher education, and 92% of children in Habitat homes had graduated high school.
We have set an ambitious goal to serve 1,000 people by 2030 through our homeownership and home repair program. We are building or renovating three homes with a healthy pipeline of projects, including renovating the Reeves Farm House in Arlington.

The Reception & Placement program at ACC-DC-VA provides a robust suite of initial support services for newly arrived refugees and SIV holders. Over the first 90 days, clients receive essential aid including airport pickup, temporary housing, food assistance, enrollment in benefit programs, health screenings, and cultural orientation. These services are critical in helping clients stabilize and begin to navigate their new environment, setting a foundation for successful integration into the community.
Employment Support Services
Our Employment Support Services are designed to help refugees and immigrants overcome barriers to employment and advance their careers. We provide comprehensive support, including job training, skills development, resume building, and career counseling. Additionally, we facilitate job fairs to connect clients directly with potential employers, offering both immediate hiring opportunities and long-term career advancement.
Health Education and Support
ACC-DC-VA addresses health disparities by advocating for equitable healthcare and organizing health workshops in collaboration with local health departments. Our services include organizing pop-up vaccination sites and providing education on preventive care and wellness. This proactive approach ensures that our clients not only understand their health care options but also have access to necessary services to maintain good health.
Youth Mentorship and Family Enrichment

Impact Statement
At ACC-DC Metro, we focus on fostering self-sufficiency among newly arrived refugees and immigrants. In Fiscal Year 23, we resettled over 1,700 individuals, providing comprehensive services including resettlement assistance, legal support, youth casework, language training, employment support, and health and mental well-being programs.
Our efforts ensure smooth transitions for clients into new communities, while also addressing the complexities of immigration legal processes. Dedicated caseworkers connect youth with educational resources and mentorship for better cultural and social integration. For adults, we offer employment training to enhance job prospects and financial independence. Our health services tackle both physical and psychological needs, ensuring clients start their new lives in optimal health.
Community integration is also key; for example, our post-COVID-19 Refugees’ First Thanksgiving event brought together over 450 refugees with 200 volunteers, celebrating new beginnings and cultural exchange. Another community event attracted 500 members, including new arrivals, highlighting local support from over 100 individuals and businesses.
These initiatives help our clients become contributing, integrated members of society, reflecting our commitment to their long-term success and well-being in their new homeland.
