Mission Statement

Camp Free2Be’s mission is to provide transgender and nonbinary youth an environment where they can feel free to be their true, authentic selves.

Program Summary

Camp Free2Be with Little SMYALs provides two weeks of summer fun and friendship in the DMV area to transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive youth ages 6-14. We also provide the opportunity for trans and nonbinary teens, ages 15-18, to serve as role models and learn leadership skills through our volunteer junior counselor program.

Impact Statement

Since its founding in 2019, Camp Free2Be has reached over 120 area youth, who otherwise might not have found a community of transgender and nonbinary kids like themselves. Initially a one week camp serving a dozen youth, interest in Camp Free2Be has grown each year, leading us to expand to two weeks for 2024, with space for 80 campers and 24 junior counselors.
