Welcome to the

Arlington Community Foundation

The Arlington Community Foundation brings the community

together by connecting those with the resources to those people and organizations with fresh, exciting ideas and expertise to strengthen and revitalize our neighborhoods and community. We are different from other charities - we manage and invest your resources so your charitable giving grows and goes back to work for the people of Arlington.

At the core of the Arlington Community Foundation is a permanent endowment of now more than 120 individual funds that are fulfilling the charitable goals of your neighbors and colleagues. With oversight by a volunteer Board of Trustees, grants are either designated by donors or are awarded competitively to schools and other community nonprofit programs and organizations through the Foundation’s grant programs.

Give The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Arlington County is well known throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia as a caring community that actively addresses civic issues. Created by concerned citizens in 1991, the Arlington Community Foundation is a result of, and a vehicle for that community activism.

In 1993, the Board of Trustees created the Spirit of Community Award to recognize and honor those people who have demonstrated their tireless and unselfish commitment to improving the quality of life in Arlington. Candidates are nominated and selected by members of the Board. The Spirit of Community Award has been presented to many outstanding individuals, including: Charles Overby (2001), Jennie T. Davis (2002), Jean Berg (2003), Eric Schaeffer (2004), Ralph Johnson (2005), The Woman's Club of Ashton Heights (2006).

Arlington’s unique spirit has made it a caring, flourishing community. Citizens participate on grant distribution and program committees and give thousands of hours volunteering in their own neighborhoods. By working within the community, we support areas of concern to the people of Arlington and build flexible, permanent endowments that reinforce and build the community now and in the future.

Our Cycle of Philanthropy - A Charitable Giving Partnership

By partnering with our donors and with the community, the Foundation creates a complete cycle of community philanthropy. We do this by:

• Tailoring charitable giving programs for individuals, corporations and organizations who want the benefits of investing in their community,

• Investing and managing those funds to maximize benefits by building your endowments

• Directing your funds to the agencies and interests you care most about, and finally

• Supporting community programs, projects and services through competitively awarded grants for scholarships, special projects, and programs that meet community needs through the Foundation’s grant program.

We invite you to become a partner with us in continuing this cycle of philanthropy and building a better community.
