The Arlington Youth Philanthropy Initiative (AYPI) is a group of students from area high schools who are committed to making a difference in Arlington through youth grants for nonprofits. These community-minded teens recruit and mentor peers to develop youth-led projects that impact our community. The youth-led AYPI Board makes decisions on grants to fund these youth-initiated projects, and works to preserve and grow the Fund for Youth Philanthropy.
Teen-led projects funded in recent years include:
A peer-to-peer emergency services training project where 20 high school students were equipped and taught how to train 20 other students in basic emergency preparedness procedures.
Teens from the Woodbury Park Apartments engage their peers in a cooking club that prepares nutritious, three course meals once a month for clients in a homeless shelter.
A youth-led, daylong college prep fair for hundreds of Latino students and their parents with bilingual workshops and a panel discussion with current college students and representatives from area colleges.
