Arlington Community Foundation Scholarship Program

2006 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS The Arlington Community Foundation Board of Trustees has announced the recipients of 115 scholarships this year from 34 different scholarship funds.   The scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000, for a total of $199,000 to be awarded by the Foundation for 2006-2007 school year.   Many scholarships are renewable for a student’s undergraduate education with the value being as high as $20,000.   Recipients include 60 students receiving a Foundation scholarship for the first time and 55 students who are previous recipients of a Foundation scholarship.   Scholarships will be presented at the Arlington Community Foundation Scholarship Awards Reception on Tuesday, June 6 th at 7:00 p.m. at Gunston Theater One.   This marks the 10th year that the Arlington Community Foundation has awarded scholarships during which time the Foundation has given away more than $900,000 in awards to support students attending college.   Arlington Community Foundation Scholarship Committee Chair, Chris Milliken, shared that “while the amount and number of scholarships continue to grow so do the needs of our community.   Selecting recipients has become increasingly difficult as candidates each year are better prepared academically and more engaged in their community. It is a great pleasure to see the Arlington tradition of excellence and community service being carried forward in community.” Students applied in March to the Arlington Community Foundation and are reviewed by community members on their merit, activities, and other specific criteria. A committee matches eligible students to appropriate scholarships and the Arlington Community Foundation Board of Trustees approves all awards. The awards are made possible by the generosity of numerous donors and organizations.
